DURATION 2 Days

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This 2-day training course explores the market conditions for service convergence and the provision of multi-play services. It examines example triple-play and quad-play service offerings and the technologies which support these services. The course introduces the concept of service convergence and multi-play, and uses case studies of to analyse the business models being employed by telecoms operators in this emerging market segment.

The way convergence is changing the regulatory environment, and public policy is addressed to ensure a clear overall picture of the emerging market and business environment is achieved.

The technology choices for the delivery of converged services and multi-play are also examined to explain the features and capabilities that can be supported and to explain how the various service components are related.

PRE-REQUISITES

A basic understanding of telecommunications would be an advantage, but is not essential.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the course, the delegate will be able to:

  • Define Service Convergence, Multi-Play and the Triple-Play/Quad-Play options

  • Identify the routes to service convergence for traditional mobile operators, fixed operators, and ISPs

  • Identify the market trends in relation to multi-play services

  • Recognise the key dynamic changes to the competitive market that service convergence and the adoption of multi-play strategies – including the role of regulation

  • Understand that customers may be offered a variety service combinations – depending on market conditions, technology, and operator strategy

  • Describe the main requirements and goals of Regulation and Public Policy in a multi-service / service convergence environment

  • Analyse and compare the multi-service offerings of example operators and describe the business models which are being applied

  • Contrast the different wireless and wireline access technologies and identify the access requirements for service convergence and multi-play

  • List the core-network network technologies that enable service convergence, together with the main features, capabilities and limitations

  • Identify the role of fibre technology in access networks and state the capabilities of the optical systems deployed

  • List the main technologies which are being used to deliver digital television

  • Identify the architecture required to deliver IPTV and describe example IPTV services

  • Describe the requirements for billing, OSS and BSS platforms

  • List the security threats related to IP networks and describe how these may be mitigated
