World Telecommunication
and Information Society Day (ernational Telecommunication Union (ITU) will be observed on
Monday, May 17th 2010.
To commemorate this occasion the Caribbean Association of
National Telecommunication Organizations (CANTO) based in
Trinidad & Tobago will stage its 4th
annual World Telecommunication and Information Society
Day- Essay Competition under the theme:
“Better City, Better
Life with ICTs”.
Students from the ages of 15 to 17 are invited to write
a 600 word essay outlining the impact of ICTs in their
respective lives, city and/or country.
The competition
will be staged throughout the Caribbean region among active
member countries of CANTO. Entries received on or before May 3rd,
2010, will be forwarded to a panel of experts in the field of
telecommunications and education, to be judged on creativity,
organization, mechanics and educational & technical merit. The
top four (4) essays (in order of points) will be selected and
awarded the following prizes:

Ø 1st Place:
§ Trip for 2 to attend CANTO 2010 in Curaçao
§ Hotel Accommodation – (double
occupancy)
§ One Notebook Computer plus US$1000.00
Ø 2nd Place: One Notebook Computer plus US$500.00
Ø 3rd Place: One Smartphone plus US$250.00
Ø 4th Place: One Smartphone

bonus, winning essays will be posted on

and published on the CANTO quarterly magazine –Cancion.

The Caribbean Association of National
Telecommunication Organizations (CANTO) was founded in 1985 as a
nonprofit association of telephone operating companies in the
Caribbean. CANTO is
now recognized as a major trade association in the
telecommunication sector with 104 members in 31 countries.
A Board of Directors appointed by the membership
directs the policy strategy of the Association. This strategy is
executed by the staff of a permanent Secretariat based in
Trinidad and Tobago.
