CANTO 28th AGM & Mini Expo

Accelerating Broadband Experience in the Caribbean

CANTO 2012 AGM_4.jpgThe demand for greater bandwidth and faster Internet connection speeds have led to the development of several technological approaches to provide broadband access to all consumers. This rapid growth is fuelled by the increased demand growth of distributed business applications, the proliferation of private networks, e-commerce, and bandwidth-intensive applications (as well as the continuing deregulation and privatization of telecommunications networks throughout the world. www.jhellerstein.com/Evolbroad.pdf.

The CANTO/IDB Broadband forum, viewed as a critical step in CANTO’s Connect the Caribbean initiative towards developing a common action plan for both the private and public sector, was held in Miami, on November, 7th, 2011, and paves the way for the 28th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Mini Expo – in St. Maarten.

The 28th Annual General Meeting & Mini Expo will be held from the 29th -31st January, 2012 at the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino in St. Maarten. The highly anticipated AGM will hinge on the theme of “Accelerating Broadband Experience in the Caribbean- Transforming the way we live”. Other staples on the CANTO AGM agenda include:

  • Presentation of the Annual report for 2010/11
  • Review of the frame work of the Broadband Initiative
  • Elections for Board Director positions
  • Face to face meetings of CANTO’s five working committees
  • Workshop – theme to be confirmed
  • Mini Expo

New on the AGM Calendar is the AGM Mini Expo. This will feature ten (10) of our major suppliers that manufacture and distribute telecommunications products and services offering in-depth information on the latest developments in voice, data, image, e-Content and multimedia.  Exhibitors will get an opportunity to meet directly with C-Level operators in the Caribbean through direct meetings and speaking opportunities.

St Martin/Sint Maarten is an island of contrasts. It is the world’s smallest land mass shared by two countries: France and Netherlands Antilles. The French territory covers about two thirds of the island and is technically a part of Europe and the European Community. The Dutch side is a member island of the Netherlands Antilles and part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but not considered a European territory. There is no real border, just modest monuments and signs. The island is known as an almost perfect holiday environment; beaches and nightlife are spectacular, shopping and dining the best in the Caribbean. http://sunsetsxm.com/index.php/island.
