It is one of the five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) that exist worldwide. LACNIC abides by a self-regulation model through which rules (policies) governing the administration of Internet resources are developed by the regional community through a public, participative, transparent and consensus-based process that is open to anyone with an interest. In addition to being a critical actor for the technical operations of the Internet, LACNIC also contributes to Internet development in the region through training activities and an active cooperation policy. Through these means, LACNIC promotes and defends the regional community’s interests and helps create conditions that will allow the Internet to become an effective instrument for social inclusion and economic development to the benefit of all territories and citizens within LACNIC’s service area.
