CANTO will host its 2nd annual C.O.D.E. Hackathon from the July 31st – 2nd August in the historic city of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. C.O.D.E. 2.0 will run in parallel with CANTO’s 32nd Annual Conference & Trade Exhibition (CANTO 2016) at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino from the 31st July – 5th August 2016. This event will bring together over 30 Caribbean based telecommunications operators, 15 ICT Government Ministers, and 700 delegates for six days of exhibitions, workshops, presentations, and networking with leading industry experts and decision makers.

Taking place under the theme “Inspiring ICT Innovation”, C.O.D.E. 2.0 will entail 48 hours of non-stop coding by teams of programmers, who will be battling it out to create the most innovative ICT technology. This year’s developers will get to utilize GENBAND’s Kandy.io – a state of the art, cloud based, real-time communications software development platform – to develop next generation integrated communications Apps.

Kandy.io is an award-winning communications platform as a service (PaaS) that allows anyone from developers to Fortune 500 companies to easily embed real time communications capabilities such as voice, video, collaboration and text directly into existing applications and business processes. Thousands of developers along with global brands such as SAP, IBM and Tech Mahindra are leveraging Kandy.io to bring innovative use cases to market.

“As we have seen over the last few years, single function communication devices, have been replaced by multi-function real-time communications software applications. “Most of the innovation in communications is now taking place at the software level, and we have to position our region to be drivers of that innovation” states Teresa Wankin, Secretary General of CANTO. “And from what we have seen, the Kandy Platform allows developers to create sophisticated real-world communications applications with very little effort, and we are happy that GENBAND has made it available to us for this competition.” she further stated.

GENBAND, a global leader in real time communications software solutions for service providers, has been a proud supporter of CANTO for many years. According to Bita Milanian, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing for GENBAND: “Kandy.io is designed to help developers, service providers, enterprises, software vendors and systems integrators accelerate time-to-market, minimize upfront investments, and focus on value-added services instead of back-end infrastructure. It is the ideal platform for developers who want to commercialize their innovative creations. We’re proud to partner with CANTO to make Kandy.io available to developers in the Caribbean region.”

For the second consecutive year, CANTO C.O.D.E. Hackathon is being sponsored by Domus Semo Sancus (DSS) and facilitated by PIEDATA.
